A Message from the President

Greetings from the Clinical Orthopedic Society!

It is an honor to be your incoming president for 2012-2013.  I am grateful for the excellent leadership that has preceded me.

In September, we completed a historic meeting in Chicago.  This was our 100th anniversary meeting.  Our membership should be congratulated for obtaining this 100 year milestone and continuing the core values of advancing the art and science of orthopedic surgery upon which our organization was founded.   Returning to the Palmer House brought back many memories of previous meetings and the orthopedic board examinations.

Drs. Pietro Tonino and Bess Brackett organized an excellent scientific program with our guest speakers, Drs. Schmalzried, Rothman and Rockwood giving excellent presentations.   As always, the opportunity to hear live patient stories and to examine and freely discuss these patients’ condition and treatment was a highlight of the meeting. Fun and companionship were had by all at the returned Gala dinner and dance in the historic Empire Room.

Please mark your calendar for our 101st meeting in Buffalo, New York.  Our local host, Dr. James Slough has already been making plans for a great meeting with social events to take advantage of the beautiful time of year in the Buffalo and Niagara Falls areas.  Drs. Mark Anders and Matt Phillips will be co-program directors and are well on their way to putting together a stimulating scientific program.  The COS will be welcoming the New York State Orthopedic Society to our 101st meeting.  So make plans to attend and bring a colleague with you.  Let us continue to strengthen the Clinical Orthopedic Society as we move into our second century as an organization.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Buffalo.

William Warner, Jr., MD
